About this Case

The execution of Mr. Mojtaba Aqamiri (with the pseudonym of Hamid Amiri) and five other individuals was announced in the Jomhuri Eslami newspaper (July 5, 1981). The news of this execution was followed by a communiqué presented to Pars News Agency by the Islamic Revolutionary Tribunal of Ahvaz. Part of the communiqué reads as follows: “... the anti-people organizations have committed a crime unprecedented in history. These vile mercenaries, under the guise of People's Mojahedin, People’s Fadaiyan of Iran, and Peykar, and in connivance with the enemy of this country and following the ominous plans of the world-domineering America, have engaged in an armed rebellion against the Islamic Republic..."

This execution was also reported in an addendum to the Mojahed magazine (No 261), published by Mojahedin Khalq Organization in 1985. The list includes 12028 individuals, affiliated with various opposition groups, who were executed or killed during clashes with the Islamic Republic security forces from June 1981 to the publication date of the magazine.

Additional information about Mr. Seyed Mojtaba Aqamiri is taken from the website of the People's Mojahedin of Iran Organization (PMIO). He was born in Ahvaz, Kuzestan province. He was a high school student and a sympathizer of the Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO). He began his political activities in 1977. After the revolution, he joined the Revolutionary Guards; but after three months, he left the Guards and became active in the Hanif Young Moslem Association (sympathizers of the MKO). According to the MKO website, during the presidential candidacy of Masud Rajavi, he was very active and got involved in several fights with the Hezbollah, becoming injured once.

Arrest and detention

The circumstances of this defendant’s arrest and detention are not known. Mr. Seyed Mojtaba Aqamiri was arrested on June 21, 1981 and was taken to Ahvaz Revolutionary Guard Center on July 1st.

Trial

No information is available on the defendant’s trial.

Charges

According to the Jomhuri Eslami newspaper, Mr. Aqamiri and three other defendants were collectively charged with “armed rebellion against the Islamic Republic of Iran” as members of the People’s Mojahedin. No details of specific acts committed by individual defendants were provided.

The validity of the criminal charges brought against this defendant cannot be ascertained in the absence of the basic guarantees of a fair trial.

Defense

Judgment
